SUMMARY:Seel & Sanders
DESCRIPTION:The folk duo Seel & Sanders is the dynamic collaboration between the award-winning, London based singer-songwriter Alex Seel and internationally acclaimed composer and virtuoso bazouki, guitar and ukulele player, Jon Sanders. Their performances touch on influences from traditional & contemporary folk, jazz, arabic, eastern, country, blues and Americana, among others. And the songwriting topics are as equally diverse; such as inspirations from eccentric characters in ordinary life, to a metaphorical mole in the ground, to love in hard times, to gratitude and loss.\n

SUMMARY:The Lost Trades
DESCRIPTION:The Lost Trades are a Folk/Americana Trio, based in the West Country, with a cool Laurel Canyon vibe. With a sound that is reminiscent of the California folk scene of the late 60s/early 70s, their three part harmonies have been described as “flawless”, “spine tingling” and “magical”.\nAfter a global pandemic cut short their first tour after just a single sold out gig, the band retreated to their songwriting rooms to work on their debut album, “The Bird, The Book & The Barrel”. The album was released in June 2021 and was well received, spending 8 months in the Official UK Folk Albums Chart. The follow up, “Petrichor” was released in March 2023, and immediately followed suit, entering the chart at #31.\nA live performance involves easy interchanging of instruments, including guitar, ukulele, bass and percussion at different points. There’s always a fun intimacy to the show, with the group engaging in comfortable repartee with each other and the audience like a group of old friends.\n

SUMMARY:Narrative Songwriting in the Brighton Fringe
DESCRIPTION:Narrative Songwriting for Friends, Families and Communities.\nWe are all exposed to a myriad of anecdotes and stories – overheard at bus stops, told at the dinner table, past on through families and communities. These can be a rich mine of material to help us explore feelings, motivations, relationships. Stories of specific people can be a way in for others to reflect on their own experiences – love stories, overcoming adversity and tales of adventure.\nIn this workshop we will look at turning these stories into songs. How do we keep an eye out for anecdotes and make sure we capture then? What are some of the conventions of folk, rock and pop songs? How do we distil some of the ideas that come out, making them into ear catching hooks and choruses?\nPhil Jones is an experienced workshop facilitator and the writer behind Fringe production, “Snow Along the Line”, a multimedia show about the life of a woman born in 1928 and the life and times she lived through. Bring pads, instruments and any photographs.\n \n

SUMMARY:SARAH McQUAID
DESCRIPTION:Sarah’s lush, velvety voice combine her engaging personality and musicianship on acoustic and electric guitars, keyboards and floor tom drum to create a truly immersive experience. Expect a varied programme of original music, folk songs and a few familiar covers.\nBorn in Spain, raised in Chicago, holding dual Irish and American citizenship and now settled in rural England, she brings the eclecticism of her background to her “captivating, unorthodox songwriting” (PopMatters) and choice of material. From contemplative ballads to playful blues to atmospheric instrumentals, Sarah’s music invites reflection, connection, and a deep appreciation of the quiet power of a well-crafted song.\nIn the words of one audience member: “Sarah is a truly impressive artist who takes you on a journey through storytelling, blending a variety of musical genres and instruments with ease and creativity. Her lyrics are down-to-earth yet incredibly captivating.  Tickets £12 advance / £15 door.\n \n

A lover of nature, animals and folklore, she writes and sings gorgeous, wistful songs channeling a lyrical folk tradition. DESCRIPTION:Bluebell Roots in Arlington with special guests and floor spots\n6pm start (arrive by 5.45)\nLive grass roots music. Booking essential\n12th April – From The Workshop\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom The Workshop is an Alternative Folk duo crafting raw, unconventional harmonies and driving acoustic rhythms that stir both heart and mind. Hailing from Beckenham and Bromley, Jonnie Temple and Helen Rosemary write deeply honest songs that reflect the shifting landscapes of their lives—tales of love, loss, hope, and quiet rebellion.\n\n\nArmed with guitar, kick-drum, and ukulele bass, their stripped-back setup delivers a surprising punch. Drawing influence from the likes of Frank Turner, Show of Hands, Joni Mitchell, Vocal Few, Radiohead & Cara Luft, From The Workshop blend poetic lyricism with dynamic folk energy to create a sound unmistakably their own.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://officialftw.com/home ( https://officialftw.com/home )\n\nArlington Village Hall,\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Street, Arlington,\nEast Sussex BN26 6RX.\nYour regular co-hosts, Milton Hide will join Neil Povey, your MC to kick the evening off.
