An annual festival of Folk Dance and music taking place in September, filling the town of Swanage with music, dance and smiles.
Description

Set on the Dorset coast, the Swanage Folk Festival is one of the UK’s most characterful and welcoming folk events. Each summer, the seaside town of Swanage fills with music, dance, colour and community spirit as thousands of performers and visitors gather for a weekend that celebrates folk culture in all its forms.

At its heart, the festival is proudly volunteer-run and not-for-profit, with deep roots in the town. What began in 1992 has grown into a nationally respected event, while still retaining the friendly, relaxed atmosphere that keeps people coming back year after year. Any surplus made goes straight back into local good causes, reinforcing the festival’s strong community focus.

Swanage is best known for its vibrant dance programme, regularly welcoming 60–70 Morris and traditional dance sides from across the UK, making it the largest dance-focused folk festival in the country. The streets, greens and pubs come alive with colour and rhythm, creating a constantly changing backdrop throughout the weekend.

Alongside the dance, the festival offers a full programme of concerts featuring around 50 bands and artists across multiple venues, mixing well-loved names with emerging talent. Add in lively sessions, workshops, a bustling craft fair, free family activities and a popular beer tent showcasing local ales, and there’s something for everyone, whether you’re a committed folkie or just curious.

With its unique blend of music, dance, seaside charm and genuine warmth, Swanage Folk Festival is a highlight of the folk calendar and a wonderful way to experience the town at its most joyful.
